Carly:

Carly was a 4-year-old girl who was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor (a kidney cancer that mostly occurs in children) on her left kidney in August 2008.  She underwent surgery to remove the tumor and her left kidney.  She was treated with chemotherapy from August through December of 2008.  In April 2009, we learned that the cancer had recurred in both of Carly’s lungs.  She received radiation and chemotherapy weekly throughout October, November, and December of 2009.  Thankfully, Carly has been diagnosed cancer-free since 2010. Her family received our financial support in 2009 to help with medical bills.

Josh:

In early 2010, a local youth was diagnosed with Lymphoma.  He was trying to stay strong, but was having difficulty being associated with his cancer.   His single mom, with her single income was faced with watching her son battle the disease, making many trips to hospitals and specialists, and paying bills that insurance does not cover.  Throughout her son’s life, this mom was always volunteering her time with cub scouts and school fundraisers.   Now it was time to give back to this family.  By October 2010, Josh had received many treatments and was considered cancer-free.  His mom received our financial support in 2010 just in time to help with stressful holiday expenses on top of medical bills.

Waylon:

Waylon of Callaway was diagnosed with Cystic fibrosis (CF) at birth. The disease causes the body to produce abnormally thick and sticky fluid, called mucus. This mucus builds up in the breathing passages of the lungs and in the pancreas, the organ that helps to break down and absorb food.  This collection of sticky mucus results in life-threatening lung infections and serious digestion problems. The most common complication is chronic respiratory infection.  In 2010, when Waylon was 2 years old, we helped his family purchase a medical vest to aid mucus breakdown several times per day.  These devices in medical technology help add normalcy to CF children and extend their life well into adulthood.
